Privacy policy

How this website and my practice collect, use and protect your personal information.

Last updated: 8 October 2026

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to Jason Baldwin Mediation (ABN 65 649 567 041) and to this website. In it, "I" and "my" mean Jason Baldwin Mediation, and "you" means anyone who contacts me or uses this site.

I handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What I collect

  • Your name, and the email address or phone number you give me
  • Whatever you choose to tell me about your situation, whether in the contact form, by text, by email or on a call
  • Records of our correspondence and, if you go ahead, notes taken during intake and during sessions
  • Basic technical information your browser sends when you visit this site, such as IP address, browser type and the pages you view

You do not have to give me your real name to make a first enquiry, though it is hard to help properly if I have no way to contact you back.

The sensitive part

Sensitive information

Conflict is personal, and what you tell me usually is too. Details about a dispute, a relationship, your health or your state of mind count as sensitive information under the Privacy Act, and they get a higher level of protection than ordinary contact details.

I collect that information only where it is reasonably necessary to provide the service, and only with your consent, which you give by choosing to tell me. Share only what you are comfortable sharing, particularly in a first message. There is no need to put the whole story in the contact form.

How I use your information

  • To respond to your enquiry and arrange a first call
  • To run intake conversations and the mediation, coaching or session itself
  • To prepare written outcomes and agreements
  • To send you administrative messages about your matter, such as scheduling and invoices
  • To meet my record-keeping and professional obligations as an AMDRAS-accredited mediator

I do not sell your personal information, and I do not use it for marketing unless you have specifically asked me to send you something.

Confidentiality and mediation

Privacy and confidentiality are related, but they are not the same thing. Alongside this policy, what is said in mediation is confidential under the mediation agreement everyone signs before a joint session. Intake conversations are private between you and me, and I do not repeat what one party tells me to the other without permission.

There are limits to that. I may have to disclose information where the law requires it, or where there is a serious and imminent threat to someone's life, health or safety.

Who else sees it

  • The other party, only to the extent you agree, and never from an intake conversation without your permission
  • Service providers that run this website and my systems, including the website host and the service that delivers your enquiry to my inbox
  • My professional advisers, or a court or regulator, where the law requires it

Cookies and this website

This site uses only the cookies it needs to work properly. To see which pages are useful, it counts visits with Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool run on a private server rather than a third-party service. Umami also records where on a page people click and how far they scroll, so the layout can be improved; it does not record what you type or what is on your screen. Umami sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, does not follow you across other websites, and cannot identify you. The site does not use Google Analytics, a Meta pixel, or any advertising tools. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings and the site will still work.

How long I keep it, and how I protect it

Notes from mediation, coaching and phobia sessions are confidential, and I securely destroy them once the work is complete. Other records, such as our correspondence and invoices, I keep only as long as I need them for your matter or as the law requires (for example, tax records), and then securely delete them.

Information is held on password-protected systems, and I take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. No system is perfectly secure, so I cannot guarantee the security of information you send me over the internet.

Your rights

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy of it, and ask me to correct anything that is wrong. Email [email protected] and I will respond within a reasonable time. In some circumstances I may have to refuse access, and if that happens I will tell you why in writing.

If you think I have mishandled your personal information, tell me first and I will do my best to sort it out. If you are not satisfied with how I respond, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always the one on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.

Questions about any of this?

Ask me directly. I would rather explain it than have you guess.
